Tolkien Art

I had a few other pieces of signed Tolkien art framed recently.  Here are photos.  I wish I had taken photos before framing because I had to take the pictures at angles to avoid glare.  The first one is called "The Test of the Ring" by Judy King Rieniets from the late 1970s.  Pretty rare print.  I can't find it online or any mention of it anywhere.  Some of her other pieces including a print I sold (was poor during med school and needed the $100) have been featured in annual Tolkien calendars.  I bought this and the other one ("The War of the Ring") by her at a yard sale for $2 each.  It is great shape because was in an old frame.

The other signed print here is called "Legolas draws the bow of Galadriel" by Michael Kamuta.  I'm gonna hang them both in our library to add to the ambiance.

Easterling Warrior

Well, here's my character sheet, a quick drawing and an even quicker biography of Ahito, my Easterling warrior. Hope you dig!
Ahito was born into a family of soldiers, and spent his childhood training for the day that he, too, would join the ranks of the Easterling army. After his father and three older brothers lost their lives in various armed conflicts against the men of Westron, Ahito became disillusioned with the life of a warrior. He began to loathe the bloodshed, the pillaging and wanton slaughter, and began to nurture plans of desertion. In the fall of his 25th year, Ahito was sent into the greater Rhovanion area, a member of a 50-man raiding party. The group set up camp south of Mirkwood, and was preparing to destroy a nearby village the next day when disaster struck. In the night, a group of unknown assailants--presumably elves--attacked the camp. When Ahito, wounded and left for dead, came to his senses the next morning, he realized that he was the only survivor of the raiding party. He saw this as a chance to begin a new life. Casting away most of the armor and clothing that could identify him as an Easterling warrior, Ahito nursed his wounds and tried to put as much distance between himself and his homeland as he could, since deserters were shown no mercy. Also realizing that he was now deep in enemy territory, Ahito endeavored to keep a low profile, wearing a scarf over his face and shunning contact with villagers as much as possible, since his accent and physical appearance would give him away immediately. Ahito is a man on the run, a hired mercenary, but a mercenary with principles. After all, he didn't become a deserter only to go back to burning villages and stealing horses for someone else. He has a certain sense of honor, and although slow to draw weapons, will not take unwarranted provocation from anyone. He has a duellist's mentality, and anyone who pushes him too far will regret it dearly. Ahito's main goal is to find a good horse (his was killed in the attack), acquire enough money to buy supplies, and head northwest as quickly as possible.

Adventure anyone?

I was thinking we might use the blog here to run a slow moving adventure. I can link stuff in here back and forth from the website, and we can use the comments section for actions. I figure if I get copies of the right tables linked on the website you could run some of the combat yourselves using the dice roller I linked on the website. The I could post results as story line and move you along to the next stage, etc. Let me know what your interest is in this. Wouldn't need to be any hurry involved. If it took a few months to run through something, so be it. I have been looking through the Moria source book...

So, I was really excited about this BLOG and decided I would take pictures of some Tolkien art prints that I have and post them.  This one is called "The Invisible Thief" by Steve Hickman.  I have started collecting Tolkien art... ok, I have three pieces, but that is a start.  The other two are currently being custom-framed so I can put them on a wall in my house.  I will take photos of them when they are ready and post them also.  For some reason, when I log in, it logs me into my wife's blog account, so every time there is a post from Rebecca... it's really me.

Later,

Rand
